Creature Caster Maggot Demon, Is It Tempting Enough?

When the Creature Caster Kickstarter launched I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't the only person to say "eh, where did the cool Nurgle-style Great Unclean One-type demon go to?" There was some info in the YouTube videos about changes to some models and it was probably explained somewhere why this model wasn't going to be part of the campaign. Frankly, I was disappointed, as it was the only model that interested me. Now we have a new rotten chap to tempt us in the shape of the Maggot Demon. There are scant details beyond the below picture, so I'm holding fire at the moment to see if we get any better views before I commit any cash.

Creature Caster Scale Reference Video - Big Nasties In Comparison to Regular Miniatures

Take a look at this short video from the guys at Creature Caster. It shows the launch models from their upcoming Kickstarter in comparison to some miniatures from GW and some other manufacturers. And don't they look great? It's impressive how they've managed to get these mega-villans to fit snugly on playable-sized bases. 

With only a week left to go until this launches I'm going to forecast that this project will get full funding within a matter of hours. It's also worth noting that on their facebook feed they've told people that there a further as-yet-unrevealed models that will be added as stretch goals if the funding goes high enough. Exciting. 

Creature Caster Kickstarter

The guys behind Ultraforge Miniatures are starting a new company called Creature Caster and will be launching a Kickstarter on February 1st. The idea will be something along the lines of pledging for one of the large models with, one would assume, the option to buy into others. Here are some of the mockups on their website. I'm sure you'll agree with me that this is the most tempting Kickstarter in a long while - possibly ever. These are by far the best greater deamons I've ever seen. And check out that treeman! Incredible work. 

Picking My Bones, Or, Putting In My Reaper Kickstarter Pledge

The time arrived a few days ago to lock in my pledge for Bones 2, which led to plenty of chin scratching (and not because I'm particularly hirsute at the moment). I always knew I was in it for the monsters, so here are the beasties I went for:

Not a hard option this one as I loved it at first sight. I suppose that when I get my Marienburgers up and running again - and I do have some plans - that this could stand in for something. Or it could just be a massive squid with some made up rules. It could also slip into my Slaaneshi army. "Squids in" either way... (sorry).

This Cthulhu-style nasty is just plain stupid fun. I'll probably Nurgle him up in some way.

And this is the dragon I went for, simply because he was different to most things around at the moment and he's got that old school style thing going on - I think he's very Realm of Chaos appropriate.

So there you have it. A gentle easing back in hobby-town for me. I'm in Wave 2, so I believe I'll be getting these monstrosities some time next September. It's always nice to have something to look forward to, isn't it?

A Dollar For A Foot In The Door - Reaper Bones 2 Kickstarter (And The Smell Of Something Fishy...)

This is the princely sum that I've paid to have a 'foot in the door' of the Reaper Bones 2 Kickstarter. I thought this was a very low level risk because it allows access to all the add-ons that will come from the campaign. I do admire all the minis that are available at the $100 level, I'm just not that interested in owning them. As per usual it's the big monsters I'm most anticipating. And I'm already delighted because this fishy fellow will be available for on $15:

The Iron Empire Are Only Hours Away - The Raging Heroes Kickstarter Is Almost Here

Hopefully everyone is aware that the Raging Heroes 'Toughest Girls in the Galaxy' Kickstarter is now only a matter of hours away from commencing. From the information they've provided I've decided I'm going to choose miniatures from the Iron Empire faction. 

It's not entirely clear at the moment how the army builds will work with regard to 40k force organisation or even whether the TGitG will provide an analogue for both Imperial Guard and Space Marines. In my mind it looks as if you might be able to get a real mix for some kind of planetary defence force. However it works, the miniatures are certain to be excellent.

The Iron Empire: The Iron Empire is made up of exiled people that have somehow stumbled upon necromantic knowledge from alien pharaonic gods. They combine Prussian and Germanic influences with some kind of Aegyptian cyber necromancy that allow them to raise the dead and create bio-mechanical aberrations.

Raging Heroes 'Toughest Girls of the Galaxy' Only Days Away

Apparently we're only days away from the launch of the Raging Heroes 'Toughest Girls of the Galaxy' Kickstarter. This is going to be the first crowd funded venture that I've ever invested in so I'm getting really excited by the prospect. I just cannot wait to see the new minis that are in development, and as I've said before, if they're anywhere close to the amazing concept art then I am completely sold!

Toughest Girls of the Galaxy - Raging Heroes

I have slightly conflicted feelings about the soon-to-launch Raging Heroes Kickstarter. Firstly, I've not invested in a Kickstarter before, although they seem to be a very good idea on one level, I wonder if rather large businesses have been taking advantage of this indie business model to slyly launch their products (I'm looking at you Mantic). Secondly, the Toughest Girls of the Galaxy line of models does look rather typically sexualised in terms of their images of women. But then, I suppose with all their rippling muscular physiques, science fantasy men are hyper-sexualised themselves. It's just people don't tend to mention this because, you know, that might be seen as a bit 'gay'. All that being said, if the miniatures live up to the concept art then I'll be very tempted to invest in this project. Take Necro Priestess Nephahrya for example: if the mini looks half as good as this, how can I resist?
