Tasty Fantasy Rumour, Or, Wild Optimism... Brets And Beastmen In A New WFB Starter Set?

I don't often touch rumours because they're usually too flaky and ephemeral, but I am rather taken by news reported over at Faeit 212 that the army books for Brets, Beastmen and Skaven are being sent back to GW HQ.

This might - might - be our first indication of something interesting happening with WFB, which, if I'm honest, has been a bit of a wasteland over the last couple of years. A few good kits have emerged, that is true, however, the game hasn't progressed at all from the horde-hammer of 8th edition.

I'm inclined (as some good news would be most welcome) to take this as a sign that Brets and Beasties will be in the 9th edition starter set. Look... the sun is out, so a little wild optimism is surly forgivable?!
Time to dust off some of these bad boys?

  1. I wouldn't say that horde-hammer is the order of the day with 8th edition. Infantry don't really feature as far as I can see, when blocks can be chaffed up for a whole game, or deleted by Monsterous Cav/Infantry.

Fast, hitty units supported by chaff, magic and shooting seem to be more successful, at least down here in NZ.

    1. Well that sounds like a more interesting kind of game than I've been used to! Although to be honest I've rested my fantasy armies for a good while.

  2. I wouldn't trust anything over at Faeit212's site personally. He does not review his facts, make sure his sources are credible, nor does he even care. He just regurgitates the false information and everyone expects it to be the gospel.

All three books will be updated by 9th edition, and I don't think 9th edition is coming this year so soon after a new edition of 40k. GW may be stupid in a lot of things, but I don't think they are dumb enough to release a major edition change so soon after they advanced the 40k storyline.

    1. You're right in that he does seem to post everything that comes his way just to get the churn rate up. I agree that it's more likely that a new edition will come next year, but you never know. Few people saw this new edition of 40k coming from far out.
